How did you discover your passion for music education and choral studies?
Growing up, I have always been involved with music in and outside of school, but my passion for music education and choral studies began in high school. I knew I wanted to go into education because I enjoyed tutoring my fellow classmates, but was conflicted about what I wanted to teach. My favorite subjects were math and music but I was much more passionate about music. When I approached my high school choral director about going into music education he immediately took me under his wing to guide me into what my future would look like. I fell in love.
What’s your favorite part about performing?
My favorite aspect of performing and creating music is the collaboration with my peers. It is always such a privilege to work alongside my incredible, talented best friends and create everlasting memories!
What’s the hardest part for you about performing?
The hardest part about performing for me is making sure I manage my time wisely and allow myself time to practice and prepare my music while keeping up with my classes outside of music.
What has been your favorite part of this college?
I picked Catholic University and the Rome School because I love being in Washington, D.C. Being the nation’s capital, there is never a dull moment - whether exploring the monuments, taking pictures of the cherry blossoms, or seeing a concert at the Kennedy Center there is always something to discover. My favorite part about this program is all of the opportunities I have been able to experience. Within my last two years at Catholic University and the Rome School, I have performed in an opera, observed a variety of grade school music classes in the area, received an internship at the Maryland State Boychoir, and have been hired to sing at a number of churches and other venues around the city.
How do you think this program will help in what you want to do next?
The opportunities and experiences I have had since being at the Rome School will prepare me for whatever job in music I find myself due to the excellent teachers and faculty offered here.
Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years In the next ten years?
I see myself teaching elementary school music while continuing to perform on the side.
