How to Sell Your Parents on Attending Art School

Posted August 7, 2024, 11:21 am by Hannah Wallace

Today’s leading arts colleges use a lot more than pencil and paper. Four years at Ringling College of Art and Design opens up professional possibilities in virtually every industry, from film and gaming to education and architecture to industrial design and bioengineering.

We immerse our students in state-of-the-art tech with infinite real-world applications. Our art and design curricula integrate exceptional specialized tech and equipment, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), immersive reality, and so much more.

    STEAM is the new STEM

The world is starting to recognize that science, technology, engineering, and math reach next-level excellence when they’re enhanced by artistic perspectives. Enter the “A” for the Arts.

And sometimes you’ve just got to experience these perspectives firsthand. Ringling College’s summer PreCollege program invites future high school grads to experience everything that our college, campus, and community offer.

For four weeks, PreCollege enrollees live and socialize like full-time Ringling College students with other curious, forward-thinking students their own age, attending courses led by Ringling faculty, receiving guidance from Ringling staff, utilizing Ringling facilities. Pre-college offers a valuable first step toward a successful journey at our school — and a way to test the waters before jumping in entirely.

Major in the arts and grow your creativity

A recent Forbes article said that creative thinking skills are imperative to a thriving career. “Approximately 73% of organizations surveyed in the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Survey reported that creative thinking skills were a top priority for them when considering talent as we move into the future, agreeing that this skill set is increasing in relevance and importance.”

According to a Statista study of more than 11 million employees from 803 global organizations surveyed between November 2022 and February 2023, “More than 70% of companies surveyed consider creative thinking and analytical thinking to be the skills most expected to rise in importance between 2023 and 2027."

At Ringling College, we believe that creativity will be the fuel of our future economy. We are teaching the next generation of creative visionaries as we help them turn their passions into professions.
