    ISA High School: Celeste Castillo

Celeste Castillo participated in ISA High School’s summer programin Granada, Spain.

Why did you choose to participate in a summer program?

My dream has been to study abroad and doing it over the summer was great because I was able to go and experience new, great things while not missing out on my normal high school studies.

How did you decide which program was right for you?

I looked at the cost, how many days I’d spend there, and I looked at the reviews that ISA High School alumni have left. I’ve always been interested in going to Spain, and since Granada has so much history and is a small city, I decided to go there.

What was a typical day in your summer program?

A typical day in my summer program consists of waking up at around 7:30 a.m. and getting ready to go to school. Then my roommate and I would walk to the University of Granada (sometimes exploring new ways to get around). We’d be in class for about four hours with a couple breaks and different teachers. Later, I’d meet up with my roommate and the rest of the people in our program, hang out for about an hour, then my roommate and I would walk back to our homestay. At that time we’d eat lunch at around 2:30 with our host family, help clean up, and take a nap or just relax for about two hours. Then my roommate and I would go out and explore or meet with the rest of the group if we had a cultural activity planned. Around 10 p.m. we’d make our way back home.

What was the most memorable moment of your summer?

I loved going to the beach in Cadiz with the rest of my group. I had so much fun, we played all sorts of games, and all got to know each other.

What advice do you have for teens looking at summer programs or camps?

Look for scholarships beforehand!! It is a great way to save money, and dedicate yourself to it. Don’t be nervous about making new friends because everyone is going in with just about the same mindset. And the most important thing is to have an open mind!!
