How did you discover your passion for the arts?

I discovered my love for music and theatre as an elementary school aged kid involved in various musical theatre programs. My high school put a lot of heart into their musicals and it was through my experiences and mentorships there that I realized the depth of my interest in musical theatre. After my senior year musical I received the 5th Avenue Theatre Award for Outstanding Lead Actress and was sent to the Jimmy Awards in New York City, which gave me the confidence to pursue this passion as a career.

What’s your favorite part about performing?

My favorite part about performing is certainly working with others. Pursuing music and theatre at PLU has further encouraged this collaborative work―students in the arts are inspired to pursue any and all interest to its end and consistently celebrate the wins of others.

What’s the hardest part for you about performing and creating?

When it comes to the arts, there are many things that interest me, and simply not enough time in the day. I have talked about this with many of my fellow creative peers: sometimes the hardest part isn’t finding something to do… it’s making sure you’re maintaining a healthy work load and giving yourself grace to have an off day.

Why did you pick this particular college?

I chose PLU because of its strong sense of community and care. Yes, it’s in our mission statement, but I truly find it in most every interaction. At PLU I have felt supported in familiar endeavors, but have also felt encouraged to pursue new interests fearlessly.

What has been your favorite part of PLU?

My favorite part of being in the Musical Theatre BFA program at Pacific Lutheran University is the closeness with which I’m able to work with instructors and peers. One of my favorite classes I have taken was a Vocal Audition class with a local professional theatre artist. My class had less than 10 people in it which allowed for a lot of one-on-one work.

I was able to ask questions about working professionally in the industry, and observe other peoples’ learning, which I found just as educational as my individual sessions. Other favorite experiences come from being a member of The Choir of the West, Clay Crows Improv, HERmonic A Capella, and managing social media for various organizations. All of this while receiving a well-rounded liberal arts education!
