Would you trade a week of your summer for the chance to rock your world, expand your brain, live on a university campus, boost your college applications and, of course, have fun?

Sophia Costa did just that. Last summer, she enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, and Forensic Science classes at the University of Connecticut’s Pre-College Summer Program in Storrs, Conn.

“I loved the program! It allowed me the opportunity to be immersed on a college campus with college students. I took science classes, which I love, with other high school students who have the same passion as me. I got to talk to the UConn faculty members who taught my classes about college and was able to express concerns. Pre-College Summer allowed me a chance to experience a little about what college has to offer.”

The staff, including Resident Managers who lived in the residence halls, were great too, she says. “They were very caring and helpful when it came to questions I had about college. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my last summer before college anywhere else.”

Pre-College Summer at UConn is a serious academic opportunity open to rising high school juniors and seniors (classes of 2018 and 2019). It offers the chance to study and live on a top-ranked public university campus while taking intensive one- or two-week non-credit classes.

Students live in UConn Housing and, besides taking classes, work with advisors on choosing a major, learn to cope with stress, get college application essay tips and discover ways to better market themselves to schools. There’s also time to hang out, play sports, grab a cone at the famous Dairy Bar or head into downtown Storrs for a concert, movie, shopping or dining.

Classes cover the social sciences, fine and creative arts, languages, STEM and pre-med. Students can pick from subjects as varied as Pre-Med; Animation; Pre-Pharmacy; Pre-Law; Social Justice; Medical Anthropology; Chemistry; The Philosophy of Personal Identity; and French. Two classes, Photography and Digital Media, will be taught in two-week long sessions in 2017.

Interested in more than one topic? Students often register for multiple weeks to explore more than one academic interest. Program costs are $1,850 for one week; $3,500 for two; $5,050 for three; and $6,500 for four, making Pre-College at UConn one of the most affordable campus-based high school summer programs. Fees include academic, administrative and weekday activity costs, housing in an air-conditioned residence hall, and all meals. There may be an additional class fee of $35 to $70 to cover the cost of supplies for studios or labs.

Register by March 31st to take advantage of the early bird discount and pay $1,700 for your first week. Find more details and registration information on the Pre-College at UConn website.

In 2016, students came to Pre-College Summer at UConn from across the United States as well as Canada, Puerto Rico and China. In as little as a week on campus, they made lifelong friends, gained valuable academic skills and discovered new paths to higher education. So take our challenge: Give us a week and we will change your life.
