What Types of Programs Does Brandon Hall School Offer?
We are a grades 6-12 day and boarding school in Atlanta. Our special programs include the IB Diploma, AP courses, a school farm, and a Center for Youth Leadership training. In addition, our after school programs include robotics, Atlanta Workshop Players performing arts camps, and an array of competitive athletic teams.
What Do You Hope Students Will Achieve By Attending Brandon Hall School?
My hope is that students are inspired to articulate an educational passion area and then have the support to transform it into a reality. At Brandon Hall, we have seen so many of our students do this and it has changed our school and community for the better.
What Inspired You To Take On A Leadership Role at Brandon Hall School?
My greatest inspiration was the opportunity to lead a diverse student and faculty pointed toward the same mission. Our work together in founding a Center for Youth Leadership and myriad sustainability programs has been such a success. I am also conscious of the greater impact my work and love for the profession can have on my industry. In 2014, I founded the global network www.teachlearnlead.net to provide resources for educators and non-profit leaders who wish to grow personally and professionally.
Describe Your Role At Brandon Hall School. What is An Average Day for You?
I am the President and Head of School. There are truly no average days as each one holds surprises, challenges, and new opportunities. I try to make time every day to walk the campus, visit classrooms, gather teams together for collaboration, and to think of ways to improve upon our daily practice.
Describe A Challenging Situation You Faced in This Role and How You Handled It
COVID-19 has been the greatest and most enduring challenge I have faced in a 25 plus year career. The endless challenges and arduous decisions have been a steady reality for the past 2 years. The upside in handling life during a pandemic is knowing I have a stellar, dedicated, and imaginative team that is unified in our focus to keep our school community safe and healthy.
What Has Been One of the Most Memorable Or Impactful Experiences You've Had at Brandon Hall School?
The establishment of the Therese A. Fusto microgrants is one of the most impactful for me personally. This restricted fund was named after my mom, a heroine and altruist. She passed from cancer and this fund was founded in her name to support student and faculty passion projects whose purpose is to better our school community in some way.
