How did you discover your passion for the visual arts?

I wanted to enhance my GPA before graduating from high school so I decided to take a lot of art classes. Not only was it a blast, but it also lead me to realize a hidden interest. After visiting the CVA (Center for the Visual Arts) Galleries on the Southern Oregon University campus and reflecting upon my high school memories, I instantly knew that I belonged in the community of visual arts.

What’s your favorite part about performing/creating?

My favorite part is the process that takes place when completing a piece of artwork. Because I work in the medium of watercolor, often times the completed piece is unexpected. Not only have I always found these moments intriguing, but more importantly I have also always enjoyed sharing them with my viewer.

What’s the hardest part for you about creating?

The most difficult part about creating is the relationship between meeting deadlines and possessing passionate motivation. For me personally, I want to create artwork when I have both inspiration and passionate motivation. When preparing for exhibitions, which require deadlines, both aren’t always there, so it becomes a lot more difficult.

Why did you pick Southern Oregon University?

I chose to attend Southern Oregon University and pursue the Visual Arts Program because it provides opportunities to gain professional experience. Not only are the facilities spectacular, but the professors and community within the program are extremely supportive and helpful as well.

What has been your favorite part of the college?

My favorite part has been my opportunity to take part in various leadership roles on campus. Not only have they allowed me to gain professional experience in relation to my career choice, but more importantly I have also met so many amazing people as well, most of which I still keep in touch with.

How do you think this program will help in what you want to do next?

I graduated from Southern Oregon University with my Bachelor in Fine Arts, and am now pursuing my Master’s in Business Administration for the Arts. I believe that this program will help me in possessing more experience in relation to the business aspect of the visual arts community. Not only do I want to own an art gallery in the future, but I also want to direct and manage one as well.

Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years?

I imagine myself working in an art gallery as a director/curator while also saving and making plans to one day own an art gallery myself. Not only do I want to provide a space in Southern Oregon for young and emerging artists, but more importantly, I want to provide a space that is exclusive to Visual Art, Music, and Theatre/Performance. In addition to this allowing for diversity and variety, it will also allow for a unique experience as well.
