    The University of Tampa – Department of Music is a comprehensive, undergraduate-focused music program that blends the best of innovation, conservatory rigor and liberal arts inquiry.     Students majoring in music at The University of Tampa have the opportunity to become highly skilled music educators, versatile performers, innovative music technologists and composers, scholars of music history and theory, and much more. The music curriculum at UT provides a flexible framework for students to develop their musical talents to a high level of proficiency while cultivating creativity, collaborating across disciplines, discovering new musical interests and becoming intellectually engaged through the enjoyment of music. Following graduation, dedicated UT music students are ready to meet the challenges of a professional music career and are well-prepared for the most selective graduate music programs in the nation.

    The University of Tampa has been an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1971. The Department of Music has been a vibrant part of the city of Tampa's cultural life since UT was founded in the 1930's. With its cosmopolitan location, historical charm, variety of programming and focus on experiential learning, you will be impressed by the cultural and educational opportunities the Department of Music has to offer. Our degree offerings include

    Bachelor of Music in Music Education – The music education major (MUSE) prepares students for careers in all areas of music education (K-12), and leads to Florida teacher certification. The program emphasizes comprehensive musicianship, performance skills and education coursework that is specifically designed for the needs of music educators.

    Bachelor of Music in Performance – The music performance major (MUSP) is designed for students who aspire to careers as professional musicians. Through intensive study of music in private lessons with highly-skilled professional faculty, participation in varied undergraduate-focused ensembles and frequent experiential concert opportunities, the program prepares students to enter the field as performers, ensemble conductors and music directors.

    Bachelor of Arts in Music – The music major (MUS) provides a solid foundation in musicianship, as well fundamental studies in music performance. As a liberal arts degree program, the music major provides students with options for choosing elective course work that fits their personal interests, or to double major in music and another course of study.

    Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre – The musical theatre major (MTR) is designed to prepare students for a career in the performing arts. The major incorporates the disciplines from three performance areas: music, theatre and dance.

    Minor in Music – The minor in music provides an introduction to music study at the post-secondary level. Students develop their skills in music performance through private lessons in their primary applied area and participation in music ensembles.
