Dive into Python and Turtle Graphics to create your first shapes and colorful designs. Learn loops, variables, and functions, then advance to nested loops for complex patterns. Explore randomness and basic AI concepts to generate surprise shapes. Discover recursion to build fractal-style generative art and use AI logic to enhance designs. By Day 5, combine all skills to build an interactive AI-powered design generator, allowing users to customize colors and shapes before showcasing your final creative project.

This program introduces students to using AI, especially ChatGPT, as a coding partner while learning foundational concepts in one chosen language: JavaScript, Java, or Python. Students explore AI through interactive Q&A sessions and tech demos, then build simple programs and projects such as calculators with ChatGPT's help for debugging and optimization. A group debugging activity strengthens problem-solving skills. Finally, each student develops a personal project using AI support and presents how ChatGPT improved their learning and coding experience.

This program trains students to use ChatGPT as a collaborative coding partner while specializing in JavaScript, Java, or Python. Through live demos, guided reviews, and hands-on practice, learners gain core language mastery aligned with their track. They create projects like quiz apps, management tools, and interactive web applications with AI-assisted planning and debugging. A final capstone project challenges students to design a real-world solution using AI for research and implementation, building strong coding foundations and AI-driven development skills.

LMU Summer Programs offers current high school juniors the opportunity to take a credit-bearing summer course. If you would like to learn more about the application process and requirements, you can speak with a Summer Programs staff member via one-on-one virtual appointments.
