    Overview

    Alfred University is a friendly, vibrant living/learning community. Founded in 1836, AU offers 40 undergraduate majors and a host of clubs, organizations and recreational opportunities. Classes are small and professors know students by name and encourage them to explore their academic and research interests.

    Alfred University aims to provide academically challenging programs in a student-centered environment in order to prepare well-educated, independent thinkers ready for lives of continuous intellectual and personal growth. We are committed to both teaching and research, and are devoted to the pursuit of technical expertise, artistic creativity and humanistic learning. The University offers a full range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences, art and design, engineering, business, education, counseling and school psychology.

    Over the course of its long history, Alfred University has never wavered in its commitment to teaching excellence and concern for the individual student. Alfred serves approximately 2000 undergraduate and nearly 400 graduate students. This small size has allowed the University to maintain a strong sense of community. Alfred prides itself on offering a personalized education that features close relationships between faculty, staff, and students, fostering personal and intellectual growth.
