    • Why did you choose to study your course at Arts University Plymouth? I loved the fact that I wouldn’t be put into a box. I love costume making, but was scared to commit to such a niche degree. Arts university plymouth gave me the opportunity to do a lot of other things and learn new mediums, even if they have nothing to do with the costumes i end up making.   Can you share a favourite project you've enjoyed working on during your course? I really enjoyed the prop making unit. Every project was a new skill that feels so specialised to costume production. It’s pretty easy to find sewing tutorials online, but the specific techniques, glues, and materials for costume prop making and millinery are so difficult to learn without an industry professional there to teach it.    How much 1:1 and group contact time do you get with your lecturers and technicians? I get as much 1:1 time as I need! Whenever I need to speak to a lecturer or technician, it’s as simple as calling them over and they are always happy to help. whether the help is specific to a skill we are learning, something more academic, or just a personal project that I am doing for myself.    Have you done any collaborative projects with other courses and if so can you tell us about them? I have really enjoyed collaborating with other students in workshops and extra skills I have been learning. There is always a friendly face to remind me of the process when I'm doing something, or even a new friend to go to an exhibition with! We also always are getting emails from careers about students looking to collaborate, whether that’s film students looking for customers, or even customers looking for models!   Which facilities and workshops at Arts University Plymouth do you enjoy using the most? I utilise the sewing lab for the most amount of hours, but also absolutely love spending time in craft! The sewing lab is so well equipped, not just with table space and equipment but also with technicians that are so knowledgeable about the most specific things. I also love the sculpting elements that I get to learn in craft. whether that is making glass beads, or a new set of ceramic bowls for my flat!   In what ways has your course provided support for your career aspirations and have you had the opportunity to complete any work experience? In costume, the career elements are really well worked into the course. The first year provided so many work experience opportunities with student groups and professionals alike. In the second year there is an emphasis on finding work experience during the summer holidays, and Jerry really helps with that. During the third year there is also a whole unit dedicated to careers and employment so you don’t feel lost after graduation.   Can you talk to us about the creative community here at Arts University Plymouth and your experience being part of it? I absolutely love the creative community in Arts University Plymouth. Everyone I meet is so kind and passionate, students and technicians alike. Every time I do a workshop or collaborations, I feel like I'm not only making a friend, but also expanding my artistic network.
