    ART & ART HISTORY

Lycoming's art program offers all the benefits of a standalone art school while also providing the practicality of a traditional liberal arts education. Our art department is recognized for its innovative program, cutting-edge digital design, and exceptional faculty of teachers and practicing professional artists. Our facility has twenty-foot ceilings and abundant north light for painting, drawing and figure modeling, darkrooms for traditional film processing, and a digital graphics lab with state-of-the-art hardware and software. Additionally, a downtown art gallery houses an exhibition space as well as sizeable, private art studios for senior art majors.

    CREATIVE WRITING

The Lycoming College English department is a tight-knit literary community where students marry their passions for writing and reading with their natural curiosity about the world around them. Intimate class sizes facilitate casual group discussions on literary themes, in-depth analysis of cultural contexts, and collaborative writing workshops with peers. Opportunities are frequently available for students to contribute and help publish a student-run literary journal and national journal, write for the school newspaper, and co-author with faculty.

    MUSIC

Lycoming’s music program offers an enriching curriculum bolstered by exciting performances and professional opportunities. Our flexible course structure allows students to design their own path to match their interests and career goals, such as music therapy or music business. Students who major in music not only develop a foundational knowledge through concentrated courses in theory and aural skills, but also benefit from the opportunity to pursue specific musical interests such as conducting, composing, world drumming and jazz improvisation. This individualized approach, coupled with close mentorship from professors in private music lessons and small classes, allows each student to flourish into the outstanding performer, composer, conductor, or educator they wish to be.

    THEATRE

Lycoming’s theatre environment is full of opportunity for practical experience. Students flourish as actors, set designers, costume designers, stage managers, and much more, as they explore individual interests by choosing a concentration. As early as freshman year, students are encouraged to audition for shows and become involved in productions. The curriculum combines practical training in every aspect of theatre with a look back at the history and literature that has shaped theatre as an art form.
