    Overview

    The State University of New York at New Paltz is a creative, diverse, challenging, and supportive environment where students get a degree from a highly selective university and an education rich in experience that will last a lifetime.

    New Paltz is a vibrant, historic village (population of around 14,000) in New York State's Hudson Valley region, midway between Albany and New York City. The campus offers beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountains and easy access to outdoor recreation such as hiking, kayaking, climbing, and biking, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, speciality shops, historic sites, and local entertainment venues.

    The Princeton Review ranked SUNY New Paltz as one of the nation's "Best Value" colleges and universities and included it among the Top 75 public, four-year institutions of higher education in the United States. Kiplinger's Personal Finance ranked the college in the Top 100 best values in the nation and U.S. News & World Report ranked New Paltz sixth among best public regional universities in the North with both bachelor's and master's degree programs.

    SUNY New Paltz has six academic schools: the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Fine and Performing Arts, the School of Science & Engineering, and the Graduate School of New Paltz. Students may also chose to study pre-health professions (pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, and pre-veterinary science) and pre-law. There are 105 undergraduate and 50 graduate degree programs offered.

The 10 most popular graduate programs include literacy education (MSED), communication disorders, English (MA), School Leadership (CAS), Second Language Education (MSED), Electrical Engineering (MS), Music Therapy (MS), Humanistic-Multicultural Education (MPS), Business Administration (MBA), and Mental Health Counseling (MS).

In fact, institutional data indicated that SUNY New Paltz students who study abroad are more likely to graduate at a faster rate than those who don't study abroad. Research also shows that study abroad can give recent graduates a competitive edge in a difficult job market.
