    Overview

The ARTEFFECT Competition is a juried annual visual arts competition for students in grades 6-12 who want to make a positive impact through their art. The Competition awards over $16,000 to young artists who create exceptional projects about diverse Unsung Heroes who changed the course of history.

Since 2016, thousands of students have participated in ARTEFFECT from around the globe. To enter the competition, students creatively interpret the story of an Unsung Hero from history in a visual work of art accompanied by an Impact Statement. The judging panel looks for compelling, original submissions that present a fresh perspective on an individual who took extraordinary actions to change the course of history.

ARTEFFECT gives students a chance to apply historical thinking to their artmaking, providing a project-based learning opportunity that engages their visual and critical thinking skills. The submission process—interpreting, developing, and creating a compelling artwork and written artist’s statement (500-1000 words)—closely reflects the applications and calls for entry that professional artists encounter.

By submitting work to the ARTEFFECT competition, students gain experience that is relevant to their futures as young creative professionals. Completing an entry for the ARTEFFECT competition is the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate their commitment to creative growth, interdisciplinary learning, and social impact. With over $16,000 of awards available, including a $6,000 grand prize and multiple prize categories, the submission process is a meaningful opportunity for young artists on the professional art track. Submissions are accepted through May 1, 2024 in various 2D and 3D media. Click “View Website” to submit your artwork today!
