Africa & Asia Venture's gap year and summer programs in Africa leave the guide book behind and take you in to rural communities, away from the luxury hotels or safari camps.
Programs available in Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda
Kenya Program
The AV Kenya program gives you the opportunity to live and work in a rural part of the country in rural villages on the coast south of Mombasa. Here you will gain an understanding of everyday life with the local people, away from the hotel lined beaches and luxury safari camps. You have the chance to contribute to a community by volunteering at a local school and supporting local projects, making a big difference on a small scale.
Malawi Program
AV's gap year and summer programs in Malawi are based in communities within 60 kilometres of Lilongwe, and around Zomba in the south. The schools we work with are often under-staffed and lack furniture, text books, sports equipment and stationary. Any help you can give is hugely appreciated by the local communities!
South Africa Program
South Africa, the Rainbow Nation, is a stunning and rugged country where a new generation of talent is slowly emerging. The contrasts are extraordinary: first world cities on the one hand and on the other, rural communities and townships, which receive little or no funding or help. Volunteering in South Africa you will see there is a passionate desire for education - in the classroom and on the sports' field.
Tanzania Program
Tanzanian schools lack furniture, textbooks, sports equipment, stationery and class sizes grow bigger and bigger. Our gap year and summer programs in Tanzania are based in communities around Arusha and Machame (near Moshi). This is Maasai country, a tribe known for their beautiful clothing and beaded jewellery. You will gain an understanding of everyday life, living within the local community and supporting them through educational projects.
Uganda Program
AV's gap year and summer programs in Uganda take place in rural communities around the area of Jinja, on the shores of Africa's largest lake - Lake Victoria, and close to the source of the mighty River Nile. You can assist at local schools to support education and introduce extra-curricular activities whilst being part of the community in rural villages.
