Come help at our dog rescue centre, located in safe and beautiful Aguascalietes, Mexico! This group runs several programs, helping to educate people in the community about responsible pet ownership, offering low cost spay and neuter clinics, and running an adoption program to find loving homes for rescued cats and dogs. The rescue team and veterinary staff rely on volunteers to assist with these programs and help hundreds of animals each year.
Help with dog and cat rescue, adoption and public education
Street dogs and cats are a worldwide problem. Many of these dogs and cats are born on the streets, while others are abandoned pets, or pets that are permitted to roam free. In Mexico hundreds of thousands of animals are estimated to be homeless - often starving, sick or injured, facing countless health challenges. These animals need our help.
In Aguascalientes, Mexico the answer is provided by our partner organization. This organization focuses on educating people about responsible pet ownership, providing low cost spays and neuters for dogs in the community and finding homes for dogs and cats rescued from the street. These programs have ensured that dogs and cats in need have received immediate veterinary care and have been provided with foster homes. Hundreds of animals have been adopted into loving families and the attitudes of people in the community have changed for the better as people learn what it means to be a responsible pet owner. Whether your interests are in education, veterinary medicine, or providing support for an excellent organization that is changing lives in Mexico, your help is needed today!
Activities
Volunteers are involved with all aspects of the program. While at the centre, volunteers help keep the clinic organized and assist with animal care. Depending on skill and comfort level, this may include helping with treatments, helping the animals after surgery, feeding the animals and socializing the dogs and cats. Volunteers also help clean and prepare everything for the next day. On event days volunteers take care of the animals and help out as needed. Volunteers have two days off per week. The exact days will be determined with the volunteer coordinator once you arrive and will depend on the number of volunteers and the activities taking place at the centre while you are there.
Volunteers stay at the home of one of the dog rescue centre team members. Lunches are provided when you are volunteering at the centre. You will be responsible for your own breakfasts and dinners (and lunches on your days off) and will have use of the kitchen at your home stay or you can choose to dine out. You will be located close to groceries, pharmacies, cafes and many restaurants for your convenience. Transportation to the centre will be organized by members of your homestay each day.
Hours: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday to Friday and 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturdays. Adoption event hours will vary on Sundays.
