Our 6 week volunteer and adventure program offers the perfect opportunity to give back through your travels, connect with the community and have the adventure of a lifetime! Volunteers will stay right on Lake Malawi with an incredible tropical view. You will work in the community daily and have safari adventures!

The week day program involves 2 nights in a local Chewa homestay, learning to fish with a local guide, cooking breakfast for the village, beach clean-ups, teaching in the local schools - and if you time for fun in the sun you can go boating and water skiing! Safari trips included to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and Lilwande National Park in Malawi! We started this program as a way to gain community support and increase the sustainable impact of our organization. We will NEVER exploit you as a volunteer. We want you to leave instilled with passion for the people of Malawi and the warm heart of Africa.

After graduating from college I was ready for a new and exciting challenge. Having been to other parts of Africa during my childhood (mostly East and South), I was keen to explore somewhere totally different.

Malawi is seen as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ for its calm and friendly atmosphere and culture. The Malawian Style volunteer and adventure placement offered a unique balance of giving back to the community, and exciting safaris and activities. I could totally immerse myself in the culture with home-stays on the lake, but nip back to the Funky Cichlid lodge when I needed some home comforts.

The staff were always super friendly and helpful, but things are a much slower pace there, so it was a great chance to try and relax as much as I could. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a varied and rewarding adventure.

I've totally been captivated by the "warm heart of Africa!"

This trip for me was perfect - I needed a bit of structure as I had never been to Africa before. I wanted a rich experience culturally, I wanted to give back but I also wanted a bit of adventure. :) These 6 weeks offered all of this - I stayed with a local family where I cooked and learned Chichewa with them. But this home was very close to a popular area on Lake Malawi so I could go hang out with my friends from Europe/USA and have a western meal if I wanted. We also had days off to enjoy the sunshine and the incredibly beautiful lake! Snorkeling with the tropical chiclid fish was one of my favorite things! I also was able to be involved with helping the local village - we helped work in the elementary school with a building project and with some teaching. The kids were so sweet! I will never forget their endless smiles and hugs!

Also, included in the cost of the program were three trips! Two Safaris and one epic hike up Mt. Mulanje! I really feel like I experienced all sides of Malawi and I can't wait to go back! Everyone was so unbelievably kind...even the other volunteers were great! I feel like I've made friends to last a lifetime!

I know for a fact I couldn't have done this program any more affordably on my own. That was another concern for me as I'm still in college and don't have enough funds for a big "study abroad" program. This truly was the ideal option - I felt like I connected with the people of Malawi, saw so much of the country and really had a mega adventure! I'm really thinking of going back after college to stay for a longer period of time.

I think everyone should go to Malawi - see something off the beaten path and have a proper adventure! Wouldn't trade this experience for the world!
