    Overview

Raleigh Expedition is an international volunteering program open to all and engaging young people from around the world.

We believe young people have the power to change the world. So we run overseas volunteering programs for young people aged 17-24 to ignite their passion for change and equip them with the skills, networks and confidence to become youth leaders.

Our Expedition program encompasses a variety of up to three different projects and experiences, that combined give our volunteers the opportunity to create change in themselves as well as in the environments and communities where we work.

Raleigh Expedition is one of the first UK programs to be accredited by the Gap Year Association (GYA) and recognized by TeenLife as a Top 15 Most Popular Gap Program in 2020.

    Change Starts in Costa Rica

Come to one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, home to national parks, volcanoes, and stunning landscapes and work with innovative young people of Costa Rica to preserve its natural resources. You will help conserve Costa Rica’s biodiversity and improve access to national parks by working with rangers in national parks on the environmental project.

Join forces with local indigenous communities on the community project to improve access to education for some of Costa Rica’s most marginalised/disadvantaged children by improving educational infrastructure. Improving school facilities in these marginalised communities will help (our project partners) create a more inclusive society for all Costa Ricans.

Lastly, build your skills on the adventure leadership trek. Challenge yourself on trek and help lead your team through rainforest and up volcanoes on a variety of stunning routes that tourists don’t get access to.

    Program Highlights:

Work alongside local people to improve their access to education on the indigenous Community project.

Take part in an Adventure Leadership Trek through rainforest and up volcanoes on a variety of stunning routes that tourists don’t get access to.

Work with Costa Rican youth to help create a more inclusive society.

Develop essential teamwork, leadership, intercultural learning, and active citizenship skills and knowledge – the foundation for young people to become future leaders.

Work on meaningful community led projects, contributing to the Global Goals.

To give you peace of mind...

All our projects are driven by the needs of the communities we work in, and more than 80% of our income goes directly to the projects, so you can be sure that you're having a lasting, positive impact.

We have more than 37 years' experience of working with young people, and our history of volunteering dates back to members of the British royal family. We have permanent trained staff in every country in which we operate, so that you can access support 24 hours a day whilst you're overseas.
