First Baptist School of Charleston offers a high standard, independent, co-educational college preparatory program for grades K2-12. At First Baptist School of Charleston we recognize the importance of educating mind, body, and spirit, providing academic excellence in a Christian setting.
Academic Excellence with a Christian Perspective, our mission, is embodied in our 7th_ 12th grade program. Our college prep program provides an intellectually rich environment which challenges students to grow academically, emotionally and spiritually. Students are nurtured by a caring faculty who model Christian values in and out of the classroom.
The seventh and eighth grade years (middle school) are designed to prepare students for the high school environment. Students learn to become more independent and to take greater responsibility for their academic work. The faculty work hard to move students to higher levels of critical, independent thinking and to develop their writing and research skills. The faculty provides a supportive, encouraging environment in which the students can develop these skills. We have high expectations for all of our middle school students but we do everything we can to help them reach their highest potential. In addition to the academic courses, the middle school program continues to develop the whole child through extra-curricular activities, athletics, and Chapel programs.
First Baptists 9th-12th grade program builds on the students previous years to prepare them for the college program of their choice. Students are challenged throughout the curriculum to rise above the level they previously thought themselves capable of. The talented faculty provides multiple ways for students to learn, apply, and showcase their abilities and interests. Research and writing skills are emphasized and students are encouraged to present their content mastery and independent thinking in various forms. Students are exposed to various career paths and requirements through assembly speakers and within subject areas. Not only are students offered the opportunity to take AP courses, they may receive college credit through our dual credit program with Trident Technical College. In addition, many extracurricular activities are available to students through campus clubs, our fine arts programs and our athletic offerings.
