Summit Prep is an accredited non-profit college prep co-ed therapeutic boarding school that offers a nurturing relationship based developmental approach to treatment. Our students range in age from 14-18 and come from all major areas of the United States as well as internationally. SEVIS approved.
The Summit Model, developed by co founder, Rick Johnson M.S.W. provides the foundation for the purposefully designed campus and programming in a normalized boarding school setting.
We offer an in-depth, balanced therapeutic design for students and their families. Treatment teams are comprised of an academic representative, two Residential Counselors and the individual therapist. All students are involved with individual, family, adventure, focus, and team group therapy. Students may also participate in AA, NA, and expressive arts. Our treatment team works together to devise the most effective therapeutic plan for each of our students.
The academic program at Summit is exceptional. We are the only therapeutic boarding school in Montana to be certified by the State of Montana Department of Education. Our teachers are licensed and highly trained in their field of instruction. Our curricular offerings are comprehensive, giving each student the opportunity to be challenged and to develop a solid college prep transcript.
Our residential program encompasses several aspects. Not only do our students get involved in many exciting activities, students also learn the skills needed to work together in a team and community. The friendships that our students form with their residential counselors and each other last beyond their time at Summit Prep.
When visiting the campus of 520 acres located near Kalispell, Montana, you will notice that there is easy access to the community, the airport, and healthcare services as well as the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities all purposefully planned to support the model.

"As you know the choice to send our child to a school like Summit was a difficult decision and we spent a great deal of time wondering did we make the right choice. We always knew that where ever we sent him it would be difficult for him to accept and understand why the placement away from home was so necessary. What we now know is that we made the right choice. Again thank you for a very inspiring experience."- Parent - March 22, 2016
"When I think of Summit, I think of a diverse and memorable place that had significant impact on my life as a whole. Although sometimes I wish there was an easier alternative way to intervene with problems that led to my enrollment, overall I understand the decision and thankful for the experience. For me, Summit was an atmosphere in which I was surrounded by a solid support system of staff, who were able to provide me with the help that I needed-no matter the area it was in."- Female Alum - June 22, 2018
