    Overview

Walker School is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) approved private, special education, extended-year school serving students of all genders in grades K-12, at two campuses, with complex presentations often manifested by behavioral, social, and emotional challenges.

On our Needham campus, we operate a group home, a therapeutic residential treatment program and a K-8th grade school. On our Watertown campus, we operate a therapeutic 7th-12th grade school.

Our school and classroom environments are designed to help students whose educational needs have not been met in previous programs and settings. Our program is competence based, with a focus on developing skills for safety and stabilization, academic and social success, and long-range resiliency in the least restrictive environment possible.

To meet the unique learning needs of each student, the Walker School offers an academic program that fully incorporates the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and utilizes developmentally appropriate practices, hands-on learning experiences, sensory strategies, and strong behavior support programming. Assistive technology such as iPads, computers, smart boards, and specialized software are also used to enhance learning.
