    Overview

    We offer exciting, rewarding outdoor adventure education for youth ages 13-16. Teen Wilderness Adventures focus on backcountry travel to gain valuable outdoor skills while learning the value of public lands and conservation in a spectacular setting.

    Come explore the the rugged beauty of New Hampshire's White Mountains. This course explores the AMC's high hut system learn about mountain ecology and public lands as they build camaraderie and conquer the challenge of New England's highest peaks.. We will think about and discuss our nation's history of protecting landscapes for public use and enjoyment and how policy enhances or exacerbates diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as explore and observe the basics of climate change science.

    The group will begin their time together with 4 days of hiking. Participants will learn how to travel and move together in the backcountry while traversing the forests and mountains of the White Mountain National Forest. AMC Educators will facilitate opportunities for the group to gain skills in camp set-up, backcountry cooking, map and compass use, decision making, and leadership. This section will include an opportunity to work with staff from the AMC's Trails Department for a full day of trail work along the group's backcountry route.
