    Overview

Learn about family relationships, trace ancestors, solve crimes, & track genes that pass on disease. In our Human Genetics academic program, learn about inheritance, the cell cycle, evolution, immunology, and microbiology.

Our genes control much of our human nature and traits. In this precollege high school program, we examine how our genetics makes us who we are. Students will engage in lectures, discussions, lab activities, field trips and research that will help them understand how genes function and how they control traits.

Topics studied may include: the nature of life, molecular genetics (DNA replication and protein synthesis), heredity, genetic disorders, The Human Genome Project, human development, cell reproduction, stem cells, cancer, evolution and the nature vs. nurture question. This program is well suited for rising 8th through 10th graders who have not yet taken a biology class. This pre-college program culminates in individual research papers and presentations. This program is great for gifted teens who love genetics.
