    Overview

Founded in 1936 by naturalist Lou Handler and celebrated canoeist Omer Stringer, Camp Tamakwa is summer home to 250-300 boys and girls ages 7 to 16 and over 130 staff.

Founded in Ontarios pristine Algonquin Park, Camp Tamakwa offers a well-rounded outdoor program. Physically, the Algonquin camp facility is in totally restored refurbished condition. But, Tamakwas magic has always been the intangible quality of warmth and camaraderie of a Algonquin camp family. Tamakwa is an intimate Algonquin camp where everyone knows each other. Cabin groups are purposely small. Above all, Tamakwa is known for its spirit. Singing, cheering, campfires and traditional camping values are the mainstays of our Algonquin camp life. These values provide an important balance to the highly technological lifestyles of modern day urban children.

Camp Tamakwa is located in Algonquin Provincial Park — the jewel of Canadian parks — where the call of a loon or a foraging moose are part of daily life. 3,000 square miles of pristine forest and 2,000 crystal clear lakes make Algonquin a world renown camping paradise and the perfect setting for Tamakwa’s program of canoe tripping, water sports, land sports, creative arts & many other activities.
