Computer Science I: Computational Thinking was my first GOA course. I learned so much valuable information that I will carry with me. I was able to self-pace myself throughout the course while also getting to synchronously meet with my teachers for guidance. My peers were from around the world, granting me the opportunity to learn about different countries and cultures through my courses. I felt a sense of community through discussion boards and assignments.

I took Computer Science II after taking CS I, and all of the challenging critical thinkings, coding, and peer corporations are so intriguing and fun! I love to work with other students in a program project and improve this program again and again so make it working, and that we can learn about each others during the process, that I found it so helpful and great!

Prisons and Criminal Justice Systems was the first GOA course I'd ever taken. A course focused on such a topic had never been available to me before, and GOA offered me the opportunity to explore and dive into a passion of mine. Not only did I learn about how prisons and justice systems work, but I researched current applications of AI in criminal justice systems and identified biases and concerns regarding equality, furthering my knowledge and critical thinking skills.

I had a great experience taking Microeconomics with GOA this fall. Our frequent opportunities for collaboration through synchronous Zoom meetings, discussions, group problem sets, and case studies allowed me to apply the Economic concepts and modeling we were learning to real-world events. This helped me gain new perspectives from other students and get a glimpse into how we can use the skills we learn beyond our education. Through the Catalyst Exhibition, I was able to do just that, and my teacher created a valuable support system as each student delved into a topic of their choosing, studying it through the lens of our course.

I have taken three GOA courses, and loved each one of them for a multitude of reasons. The GOA community is strong, and I have grown not only as a learner, but as a person as well. Connecting with peers around the world has helped me to develop strong community engagement skills, as well as given me a better understanding about myself and the world around me. The course offerings are unique, allowing me to develop passions in subject areas I never would have explored without GOA.
- Jacqueline, Student, Menlo School - January 8, 2024 -
I took Introduction to Legal Thinking and I gained so much knowledge and experience about law from this course. I felt like we were able to learn a lot about many different aspects regarding law, and I loved the combination of individual assignments and collaborative assignments. Another aspect I thought was really cool was the video feedback where I felt like it was easier to understand, and I really appreciated the time my instructor took to give and record his feedback.
- Storey, Student, Chadwick School - January 8, 2024 -
I have taken both Global Health and International Relations at GOA. These two courses are not offered at my school and it allowed me to take a class in something that I am very interested in. I was able to meet students from around the world and learn how to coordinate meetings with many different time zones. I now know that these subjects are something that I want to pursue in college and beyond!
- Gigi, Student, St. Luke's School - January 9, 2024 -
Social psychology was the second GOA course that I completed. It was super fun and I loved learning about different concepts that my school didn't offer. Getting to know other people's perspective from different parts of the world was super interesting and helped to broaden my learning. Not only did I get to learn the theory of social psychology but I was able to apply my knowledge in my real life which was super cool. Overall this was an amazing course and I learned so much content!
- Hwee-Lin, Student, St Michael's Collegiate - January 9, 2024 -
I took the Precalculus summer course in the Summer of 2023, which was the first summer GOA offered the course, and was pleasantly surprised. It prepared me above and beyond for the concepts I am now learning in Calculus 1 (aka Calculus AB) as a junior. I've taken GOA courses before, but it was my first Summer one, meaning the learning was more condensed and fast-paced. Even then, I felt the teacher was very in tune with our needs, communicating constantly, making adjustments as necessary, and pacing the class very well.
- Galia, Student, University Prep - January 10, 2024 -
I took Microeconomics and had so much fun. I loved getting to know people I probably would have never have crossed paths with otherwise. I liked being completely in charge of my learning and having a sense of independence but also knowing that my teacher was there to help if I needed it.

“Medical Problem Solving 1 was the first GOA course I’d ever taken. I was able to connect with peers living all over the world and learn about the differences in healthcare from everybody’s firsthand experience…Not only did I further my understanding of anatomy and biology of the human body, I learned even more important lessons in empathy.”
- Sanya, Student, Buckingham Browne & Nichols School - December 9, 2020 -
“My daughter loved her GOA class. She found it to be very rigorous, which was exactly what she was hoping for in this class. Her teacher was in a different country and classmates were around the world. To learn from and collaborate with people from all over the world was an amazing experience.”
- Erin O'Neill, Parent - September 1, 2020
