    Overview

What grand challenges would you like to tackle? A new technology to detect chronic diseases? Cleaning up the environment? Feeding the world? At Missouri S&T’s Engineering with Biology camp, campers will explore how synthetic biology can be used to address some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Through hands-on laboratory projects, campers will discover how living organisms can be engineered and modified to produce valuable chemicals, and learn how to control these processes. They'll have the opportunity to choose the challenges they'd like to solve and design innovative solutions that bridge the worlds of biology and engineering. Campers will learn the fundamentals of synthetic biology through exciting, hands-on activities, including: - Designing and testing genetic systems to optimize their performance - Evaluating alternative genetic systems to identify the best solutions to real-world problems - Comparing results of inserting genes into different cells - Exploring the use of yeast to produce vitamin-enriched food - Modeling an engineered biological system with an electronics building kit - Discussing and debating the societal impacts of synthetic biology - Competing in a design challenge to propose and plan solutions to problems they choose Join us for a summer of innovation and discovery where biology meets engineering to shape the future!
