Missouri S&T Summer Camp: Light in Our World (Day Camp) Recently Updated

Ever wondered how light travels or how we can protect ourselves from harmful UV rays? Join us for Missouri S&T’s Light in Our World Day Camp where campers will dive into the exciting world of light through hands-on learning, collaboration, and exploration in a fun and interactive environment.

This camp will use the Project Lead the Way Launch module "Light: Observing the Sun, Moon, and Stars" to guide campers in discovering the science of light. Campers will engage in creative activities, build their own protective devices, and even explore the stars through the Kummer Center for STEM Education's planetarium.

Camp Activities Include:

• Sun Tracker Creation: Campers will build their own Sun Tracker and use compasses to observe light patterns throughout the day, gaining real-world skills in observation and analysis that scientists use every day.
• UV Exploration: Using UV-sensitive beads, campers will create their own bracelets and test them in the sunlight to observe the effects of ultraviolet rays.
• Designing UV Protection: Campers will design and build a model of a playground that provides shelter from UV rays, testing its effectiveness with UV-sensitive beads and a UV flashlight.
• Star Observing and Planetarium Experience: Get ready to explore the stars in our inflatable planetarium and enjoy a special “movie under the stars” experience!

Light in Our World Day Camp provides an engaging and educational opportunity for campers to explore the science of light and its effects in the world around us, all while having fun with interactive activities and experiments!
