    Overview

The North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN) Pre-College Program is a year-round program for underserved students in grades 6 – 12 that is designed to provide mathematics and science enrichment.  Find out more!

The program’s mission is to prepare students for entrance to a four-year college/university and careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and teaching. The Summer Scholars Program is one component of the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program and is designed to provide mathematics and science enrichment to its students with a primary goal to prepare students for their upcoming mathematics class.

Students who are currently in the 12th grade are not eligible to participate in the Summer Scholars Program. The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program will admit a limited number of underserved students for its Summer Scholars Program on a first-come-first-serve basis. Courses will be taught in mathematics, science, and robotics for middle school students while courses in mathematics, science, communications, robotics, and career awareness will be taught for high school students.

Thoe enrolled will have the opportunity to hear from guest lecturers, attend field trips, and join clubs all with the purpose of instilling a sense of passion for the sciences! There will be academic compeitions amongst kids from different schools on a special date we call MSEN Day. Awards are given out around mid-May to recognize those who have accomplished much during their time in our program.

The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program at NCSU is available only for students who live in Bertie, Durham, Franklin, Johnston, Nash, Northampton, Orange, Wake, Warren Counties and Weldon City. There are three other NC-MSEN Pre-College Program sites across North Carolina. Students may participate at the program site that is closest to their home.
