    miRcore leads computational biology camps online for academically motivated 8th-12th graders interested in STEM careers in computers, math, sciences, and medicine. Students study the role of genomics in disease and how to perform computational biology research using clinical data to identify genes related to certain diseases.

    We have five years of extensive experience teaching online, ranging from interactive instruction and guiding small group research to group bonding games. Students will remain safe from the COVID-19 pandemic and find miRcore online summer camps a trusted educational tool to broaden and develop their knowledge and career paths in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math, medicine) fields, as well as form friendships.

    Our camps are not one-time summer events; they serve as launchpads for students who go on to participate in the miRcore volunteer program (MVP), which campers are invited to join.

    The MVP is free and meets for two hours every weekend throughout the academic year (Sept-May) with both in-person (regional: Ann Arbor, MI and San Diego, CA) and online groups (nation-wide). Our students learn more about computational biology, programming, research, teamwork, and community outreach, as well as leadership. MVP students are also GIDAS (Genes In Diseases And Symptoms) club leaders at their schools, teaching their peers what they have learned from us. Students grow in our program and develop a firm basis for reaching their potential in STEM.
