Rutgers summer dance students receive specialized, age-appropriate mentorship by Mason Gross School of the Arts faculty. This summer, high school students enter our virtual Dance Conservatory, led by our talented dance faculty. Weekly virtual classes are also available for young dancers of all ages!

Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory (ages 13-18)

The Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory invites high school dancers to sample the rigorous schedule of ballet and modern technique classes that Mason Gross School of the Arts collegiate students participate in daily. Participants develop skills under the guidance of MGSA faculty, and guest artists offer special workshops on topics such as dancer health, strength & flexibility, college admissions, and dance career path exploration.
    *Audition required

    Pre-College Conservatory Ballet (ages 13-18)

The Pre-College Conservatory level is designed for students who seek to build artistic acuity and technical endurance while preparing for college dance programs and careers in dance. Students learn and perform classical repertory in addition to ballet technique and pointe.

    Contemporary Dance (ages 11-18)

This course develops a dancer’s musicality, fluidity, and expression in movement, as well as the ability to pick up choreography both in detail and style. Contemporary dance combines the genres of jazz, ballet, and modern technique, providing the student with a movement vocabulary that ranges from floor work to technical proficiency, from precise detailing to raw emotionality, and how the body aligns with music and storytelling. Students will be challenged to connect to dance not just with the body, but with the mind and soul.

    Hip-Hop (ages 10-18)

Hip Hop is a high-energy dance class that will take you on a cultural and historical journey of foundations, grooves, freestyle and choreography. Exploring and integrating multiple styles within Hip Hop/Street Dance culture, students will develop musicality, self-confidence and encouragement to bring their own individual personality to movement vocabulary learned on a weekly basis.
