    Overview

    Do you wonder what a career in dentistry would be like? You can join Stony Brook’s School of Dental Medicine this summer for a weeklong, residential pre-college program. Gain hands-on experience in an advanced pre-clinical laboratory and discover what it's like to be a dental student. You will work with Stony Brook Dental School faculty along with current students. Outside class, you will experience campus life and meet new like-minded people.

    The Stony Brook University Pre-College Summer —  Dental Sciences program is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in learning more about dentistry and what it takes to be a dental student. You will watch demonstrations in the state-of-the-art Center for Implant and Dental Technology and learn more about the Dental Medicine program.

    Course Content

    In this experiential program, you will participate in hands-on learning activities including:

    • Use of high-speed dental handpiece and other dental instruments
    • Preparation of cavity restorations
    • Creation of Typodont impressions and stone models
    • Fabrication of mouth (athletic) guards
    • Modeling of a central incisor in wax banana suturing

     Life On Campus

    Outside of class, you will enjoy social activities, develop lasting friendships, and get a taste of college life on campus.

    To be accepted into this program, you must be a rising junior or senior in good academic standing. For 2025, this program is open only to US residents between the ages of 15 and 17.

    This course is offered during:

    Session One: July 6 - 11, 2024

    Program Cost: $2,250 ($50 application fee)

    A limited number of scholarships are available to offset the program costs for students with demonstrated need. The Scholarships are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    Early Action*:  March 7, 2025
    Application Closes: May 30, 2025

    *Apply by the early action deadline and receive a $100 discount on the program fee.
