    Overview

The Advanced Ambassador Program is an immersive and exciting live-aboard experience for students around the world, ages 16-19. From August 17– 26, 2025, students from around the world will come together to set sail from Boston, MA.  Under the supervision of professional crew, students will live and work together aboard the traditionally rigged tall ship, Denis Sullivan, as they explore the wonders of the New England coastline.

Students and crew sail by day and anchor at night, providing opportunities for sail training, activities at anchor, and field trips to sites of interest on land and at sea. The ship will travel throughout New England as students expand their perspective of the world, build new skills, step outside of their comfort zones, and make new friends—all within a supportive learning community. Students learn the basics of tall ship sailing and experience a taste of marine science, engineering, and maritime history. During their expedition, students will learn and practice seamanship and navigation as they operate and maintain the 137-foot schooner that is their home. They will also carry out lessons in maritime history, community-building and ethics. No prior sailing experience is required for the Advanced Ambassador Program.

Not only do students become ocean scientists and tall ship sailors while on board, they learn transformational life skills including resilience, self-reliance, teamwork, and courage. Modern technology is limited as students use traditional techniques to navigate and cell phones are not allowed. Many parents have shared that their children’s lives have been fundamentally changed as a result of our programs.
