    Overview

Cardigan Summer Session will offer one, 4-week Session (boarding and day) for 2022. Our programming is open to girls and boys entering grades 3-9 and provides the perfect balance between academic enrichment, personal development, and summertime fun!

Our students improve their academic skills, broaden their experiences, try new hobbies, and develop new friendships all while enjoying a wide variety of activities and a full community life on the scenic Cardigan Mountain School campus in Canaan, New Hampshire. Cardigan Summer Session is not a traditional summer camp or a traditional summer school.

Summer Session students come to Cardigan from all over the United States and the world. For some, Summer Session provides an opportunity to reinforce understanding in content areas like math or English or to improve organizational and study skills. Others find at Cardigan a chance to enjoy enrichment courses in the arts, sciences, or foreign languages. Some students come to Cardigan for the camaraderie and the cultural diversity (we are 40% international).

    Academics
Weekday mornings, each student takes four to five periods of academic classes. We offer a wide variety of classes that are either one or two periods per day, including classes in English, ESL, math, science, arts and music, essential academic skills, world languages, and current events.

    Activities
During afternoons and evenings, we take full advantage of our beautiful lakeside campus with activities, performances, competitions, dances, and bonfires.

    Students choose two afternoon activities:

    • Arts & Crafts
    • Athletic Training
    • Baseball
    • Basketball
    • Canoeing
    • Flag Football
    • Frisbee Golf
    • Hiking
    • Horseback Riding
    • Improvisational Theater
    • Kayaking
    • Lacrosse
    • Mountain Biking
    • Sailing
    • Soccer
    • Stand Up Paddleboarding
    • Street Hockey
    • Swimming
    • Tennis
    • Ultimate Frisbee
    • Yoga

At night, we welcome performers to campus, engage in all-school “Green and White” competitions, enjoy campfire skits, and bond as a group during dormitory initiatives. By “lights out,” our students are ready for a good night’s rest after a very full day.

    Independence for Students
Our community life makes Cardigan Summer Session unique among summer programs. Our campus layout and program focus allows the students to grow through both freedom and responsibility. In the dormitories, each group works on interdependence and cooperation with their roommates and the dorm floor as a whole. During the class days and activities, there are countless opportunities to exercise choices that are coupled with progression and accountability. In the dining hall, we focus on skills and attributes that lead to uplifting conversation and service to others.
