    Novastar's SummerEdge Workshops are a series of one-week classes taught by our top tier subject matter experts and designed to keep students engaged and learning during the summer months. We understand that summer learning is critical, and our workshops are designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore new subjects and develop new skills, while avoiding the dreaded Summer Brain Drain.

    Step into the Music Industry

    July 17-21 OR July 24-28 | 12-1:30 PM EST

    Get to know the music business from an industry professional! Learn about the software used by sound engineers, the role of vocalists, colleges with strong music programs, and the path to getting signed to a record label.

    Beyond Pre-Med: Careers in Public Health

    July 10-14 OR July 24-28 | 1:30-3 PM EST

    Interested in a healthcare career that doesn't involve working as a medical doctor? Explore the wide variety of careers in public health, including epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and management, and many others!

    Intro to AP Physics 1

    June 19-23 OR July 17-21 | 10-11:30 AM EST

    This introductory workshop is designed to start preparing students for AP Physics 1. Students will learn about Newton's Laws of Motion as well as other important foundational topics such as kinematics, circular motion, and gravitation.

    Intro to AP Chemistry

    June 19-23 OR July 17-21 | 12-1:30 PM EST

    This introductory workshop is designed to start preparing students for AP Chemistry. Students will learn fundamental concepts including structure and states of matter, intermolecular forces, reactions, and chemical properties.

    Crafting the College Application Essay

    July 17-21 OR August 7-11 | 5-6:30 PM EST

    Get ahead on your college application and write your Common App personal statement with an admissions expert. Students will receive one-to-one editing instruction and leave the workshop with a completed personal statement.

    Unlearn Procrastination: Habits for High School Achievement

    June 26-30 OR July 24-28 | 1-2:30 PM EST

    Crush procrastination and other GPA busters by learning essential executive function strategies. Students will practice how to set achievable goals, prioritize tasks, and create effective study plans to succeed in high school and beyond.

    High School Book Club

    July 10-14 (Manhunt) OR July 24-28 (Anthem) | 11 AM-12:30 PM EST

    Students will discuss the critically acclaimed Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson and Anthem by Ayn Rand. Students signed up for Manhunt will need to purchase and read the novel prior to the workshop.

    Speak Up: Strategies for Public Speaking

    Effective public speaking skills can not only help you academically but can also set you up for success after graduation. Learn simple steps and strategies for how to deliver an awesome presentation from start to finish.

    "To Infinity and Beyond": Exploring the Universe

    June 19-23 OR July 10-14 | 6-7:30 PM EST

    Uncover the mysteries of the universe in this exciting workshop about space! Peek inside the world of astrophotography and explore fascinating topics such as star formation, black holes, dark matter and energy, and space expansion.

    Money Skills for the Real World: Personal Finance and Investing

    Learn how to manage cash flow like a pro and set yourself up for financial success! Students will practice creating a budget, use personal investment tools, and find out the risk-reward tradeoff when starting a small business.

    Grammar Bootcamp: SAT Writing and Language Test

    Grammar and punctuation are tested the most on the SAT Writing and Language Test, but instruction on them usually falls away before students take the SAT. Keep your skills sharp with this intensive workshop and achieve a top score.

    Organization Tips and Tricks for Middle School Success

    Build strong academic habits to set yourself up for pre-high school success with this intro-to-organization workshop. Learn how to track projects, use the right study tools, stay motivated, and keep a distraction-free workspace.

    Word Crafting: The Art of Writing Stories and Poetry

    June 12-16 OR July 10-14 | 5-6:30 PM EST

    Calling budding authors! Learn expert writing techniques that are sure to level up your storytelling skills. Practice using figurative and descriptive language and crafting poetry that can double as song lyrics. Most of all, get inspired to create!

    Middle School Book Club

    June 26-30 OR July 24-28 | 5-6:30 PM EST

    Through a variety of activities that are sure to spark curiosity, imagination, and a love for books, students will discuss stories from some of today's most popular young adult authors. All stories will be provided at no additional cost.
