    Overview

The Tapia Camps are award-winning residential STEM camps for rising 8th-12th graders at Rice University that emphasize communication and equity. Campers complete STEM projects and presentations as they experience life as a Rice student for a week.

The Tapia STEM Camps at Rice University provide an immersive week-long residential experience for rising 8th–12th graders passionate about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Founded by National Medal of Science recipient, Dr. Richard Tapia, the program focuses on communication, leadership, and equity in STEM fields, ensuring that students not only gain technical knowledge but also develop essential skills for success in future careers.

Campers engage in hands-on STEM projects, collaborate with peers, and receive mentorship from Rice University faculty and industry professionals. They present their projects at the end of the week, gaining valuable experience in public speaking and scientific communication.

Beyond academics, campers get a taste of college life, living in dormitories, exploring campus resources, and participating in team-building activities. The program fosters an inclusive and encouraging environment where students can build confidence, make lifelong connections, and explore future STEM opportunities.
