    Overview

Tufts Pre-College Programs is pleased to offer both a one-week and two-week iteration of our esteemed Mini Med School Program – Mini Med School: Careers in Medicine and Mini Med School: Clinical Experiences. This summer intensive provides students interested in medical school (or other health professions) the opportunity to study with one of the nation's leading medical schools - Tufts University School of Medicine.

Mini Med School: Careers in Medicine

This program explores a range of medical and health topics and places a content emphasis on infectious diseases and immunology, two issues that are critical to doctors and medical professionals today. Students will learn about the importance of appropriate treatment and the cutting-edge solutions to these challenges that researchers are developing. As a part of this focus, students will take part in a medical microbiology lab and infectious disease focused medical case studies.

    Mini Med School: Clinical Experiences

Mini Med School: Clinical Experiences is a one-week stand-alone program that provides immersive exposure to hands-on clinical experiences. The program comprises Diagnostic Labs, Clinical Skills, work in the Simulation Center, and hands-on activities in the Anatomy Lab. We will bring this learning together with patient case studies and question-and-answer sessions with admissions staff, medical doctors, doctors from other health professions, and medical students. These sessions will help participants get a feel for medical school and the career options they have in medicine and related health sciences.

    Adventures in Veterinary Medicine

Dig into veterinary medicine through an exciting and intensive program where you’ll be surrounded by others who share your passion for animals, health, and science. Explore specialty fields and important topics in veterinary medicine through informative lectures by Tufts faculty, staff, and vet students and get up close and personal with animals on the Cummings School Farm. Program Highlights: Get up close and personal with the animals on the Cummings School Farm while learning proper animal handling techniques and performing physical examinations. Build your vet skills; Practice bandaging and suturing, learn how to read x-rays, give a clinical exam to a dog, and work as a team to solve a challenging medical case; Participate in hematology and anatomy labs, meet various working animals, visit a dairy farm, and more!

    Lab Science Investigations: Antimicrobial Resistance

As a student researcher in Lab Science Investigations: Antimicrobial Resistance, you will have a uniquely immersive experience with the One Health approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. In the case of AMR, excessive use of antibiotics in agriculture, animals, and people, all contribute to this problem.. To address this, as part of the STEM Research Institute, you will hear perspectives from experts in many fields and you will work with laboratory research techniques used by engineers, social scientists, biomedical scientists, veterinarians, physicians, drug developers, epidemiologists, healthcare policy experts, and environmental scientists, who work together at the Tufts Levy Center for Integrated Management of Antimicrobial Resistance (CIMAR).
