    Equine Science Intensive: Horse Pregnancy & Foaling

    Join us for an online Equine Science Intensive and learn all about Horse Pregnancy & Foaling. Using real-life case studies from the UMass Hadley Farm Equine Center, you will learn how to properly manage a broodmare during her 11-month pregnancy and prepare for a new foal! You will use applied science, observational skills, and horse behavior to help predict when a foal might be born. You will also learn the three stages of labor and what to do in an emergency. Finally, you'll be prepared for the foal's very first veterinary exam and learn about newborn foal behavior and development.

    High School Biology (Students should be familiar with genetics and mammalian reproductive anatomy/physiology)

    Live online sessions Monday - Friday 11:00am -12:30pm and 1:30 - 2:30pm (EDT)

    Program Fee: $897
    Application fee: $35 – All Applicants
    Materials: Accepted students will need to order a foal watch kit, approx. $44.00.

    Program fees include tuition, a technology fee, and a one-time registration fee. Certain programs have an additional materials fee to cover the cost of necessary tools and supplies (included in total). These come pre-packaged through the host departments.
