    Overview

Do you love the Princess Bride? Do you want to wield a sword like a Jedi? Or do you dream of competing for the Olympic Gold in fencing? Fencing is a unique, intellectually stimulating, and exciting NCAA sport. Camps cover primarily foil, a light thrusting sword with some instruction in sabre, the modern equivalent of the cavalry sword, and epee, the modern dueling sword. Students practice footwork, handwork and strategy formation.

All skill levels are welcome. We offer weekly camps for ages 4-7, 8-13, and 14+

    Olympic Sport

Known as the physical game of chess, Olympic sport fencing provides a tremendous physical and mental workout for students of all ages and athletic abilities. As one of the safest sports, fencing makes fitness fun! It builds muscle strength, provides a great cardiovascular workout, and improves endurance coordination and speed. VAF is a place where those who are just starting to learn fencing can do so in a safe, friendly, and fun environment. At the same time, VAF is also a place where more experienced and competitive fencers can receive the highest level of training offered in the U.S.

    Historical Swordsmanship

Explore the art of combat the it was originally practiced on the battlefields and dueling grounds of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance! The Historical Swordsmanship program explores the world of Historical European Martials Arts (HEMA) as students of all ages and abilities enjoy a tremendous physical and mental workout as they learn the techniques and strategies used by fencers who lived before the modern olympic sport was created, bringing these fighting arts to life in a safe and fun environment. Students gain fitness, coordination, reflexes, and endurance, as well as learning about the chivalric history of these knightly arts.
