    Overview

We inspire students from all backgrounds to be courageous and compassionate changemakers for themselves, their communities, and our planet through transformative education aboard our iconic tall ships.

The Summer Ambassador Programs are immersive and exciting live-aboard experiences for teens around the world. Students and professional crew sail by day and anchor at night, providing opportunities for sail training, activities at anchor, and field trips to sites of interest on land and at sea. Students learn the basics of tall ship sailing and experience a taste of marine science, engineering, and maritime history while on board. No prior sailing experience is required for these programs!

Aboard Schooner Denis Sullivan, students will navigate the New England coast together. Not only do students become ocean scientists and tall ship sailors while on board, they also develop invaluable life and social emotional skills. World Ocean School’s innovative curriculum offers both STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning as well as opportunities to develop invaluable skills including resilience, trust, and courage.

While on board, students rotate through three stations within their watch groups each day. In Active Watch, students are responsible for sail handling, steering, and maintaining the ship’s deck while underway. During Seamanship Watch, students learn technical skills taught by our crew such as navigation and knot tying. On Reading and Reflection Watch, students take time to engage with the sea and appreciate their natural surroundings. Modern technology is limited while on board, so students will not have access to cell phones for the duration of program. Friend and families at home can follow the ships journey by reading daily Ships Log posts on our website.
