    Overview

SIRE’s mission is to create a community where horses help individuals with disabilities and challenges live their best lives. Volunteers support riders in and out of the arena by assisting with lessons, horse care, and facility upkeep. In the arena, side walkers provide physical and verbal support (no horse experience needed), while horse leaders guide horses during lessons (experience required).

SIRE serves adults and children with a wide variety of special needs including, but not limited to cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, developmental delay, AD/HD, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.

Volunteers must walk for 30 minutes, jog briefly, and support moderate weight. The minimum age is 14, with younger volunteers assisting outside under supervision. A $25 background check through Verified First is required.
