To teach people to be caring citizens of the earth through nature-based environmental education.

Take control this summer. Become a leader and learn valuable life skills by challenging yourself and putting your abilities to the test through immersive adventures in the Maine wilderness. Lead a group of your peers through the back country of Midcoast Maine or help fellow campers navigate the St. George watershed on a week-long, 50-mile journey. Tanglewood 4-H Camp & Learning Center in Lincolnville offers young adults, aged 14 and up, these opportunities and more through the Leadership Development Programs. These exploratory programs are designed to provide teenagers with knowledge, skills and direct experience in communication, decision making, group building, camping, problem solving, understanding diversity and sustainable living. There are 4 phases to the Leadership Development Program, and while many participants strive to become camp counselors, the skills learned can be applied in many situations. It is anticipated that Tanglewood graduates will make positive contributions toward creating healthy and sustainable communities. All Leadership programs are based at the camp in Lincolnville, and campers practice being leaders through their participation in outdoor adventures, focused activities and service learning projects. Many leadership participants consider this program one of the most valuable experiences of their lives.
