    Overview

Albany State University is a public historically black university located in Southwest Georgia. We are a student-centered school with a reputation for academic excellence. Whether you are an aspiring artist, budding business person, or serious scientific-type, Albany State has a major for everyone!

On November 10, 2015, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia voted unanimously to begin the process of consolidating Albany State University and Darton State College. That same day, Dr. Arthur N. Dunning became ASU’s permanent president. The newly established university retains the name Albany State University and unifies the distinction, values, and missions of the two institutions. One of Georgia’s diverse, educational gems, Albany State University continues a combined legacy of more than 100 years of excellence in teaching and learning. The University prepares students to be effective contributors to a globally diverse society, where knowledge and technology create opportunities for personal and professional success.

Located in Albany, Georgia, ranked by Money Magazine as the best place to live in Georgia and among the top 115 places to live in the United States. With a population of 100,000, students will find a plethora of shopping areas and entertainment centers near the campus. Tallahassee, Florida, and Columbus, Georgia, are only a little over an hour away; Atlanta, Georgia, and Panama City, Florida are just three hours away!

While on campus, students collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to assure that living and learning coincide, and that both are fun. The campus itself looks and feels like an exclusive, private school. When exploring the campus, students may discover the state-of-the-art theatre, multiple athletic fields, outdoor courts, the Cavalier Arena, an indoor pool and fitness center, a weight room, an indoor track, studios for aerobics and dance, a student center, and the Center for Adventure Based Leadership with climbing towers. Albany State University hosts more than 30 campus organization and service clubs, with 11 nationally-regarded athletic programs, and exceptional programs and facilities in art, dance, theatre, and music.

Albany State offers associate degrees, a bachelor's degree in nursing, and certificate programs. In addition, many programs can be completed fully online. We prepare students academically and professionally to transfer them to other four-year institutions, or to pursue their career goals by entering the workforce immediately upon graduation. Educational divisions include business, health sciences, humanities, social science, nursing, physical education, science and mathematics, and online options.
