    Overview

     McMaster University is a public research university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It's most renowned programs include: Health Sciences: McMaster's flagship undergraduate program. Admission is extremely competitive, with upwards of 4000 students competing for around 160 spots.

    Our History

    • Founded in 1887 in Toronto through a bequest from the estate of Senator William McMaster, a member of the first senate after Confederation and founding president of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
    • Maroon and grey were adopted as the official colours in 1912.
    • Relocated from Toronto to Hamilton in 1930.
    • Celebrated our 125th anniversary in 2012.

    • 82 endowed chairs, 69 Canada Research Chairs, six endowed professorships, six Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Industrial Research Chairs, three Canadian Institutes of Health Research Chairs, and one Canada Excellence Research Chair.
    • Dr. Bertram Brockhouse (a professor of physics at McMaster from 1962 until his retirement in 1982) was co-winner of the 1994 Nobel Prize for Physics.
