    For nearly four decades, the Mason Gross School of the Arts has served as a creative laboratory for thinking artists. Rigorous arts curricula and a faculty of esteemed professionals and scholars actively engaged in their fields make for versatile working artists navigating careers with daring and discipline. Located in New Jersey, Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers is a professional school offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance, music, theater, and visual arts. Our more than 1,000 students and 190 faculty members share a passion for the arts in all their forms.

    Mason Gross School of the Arts is a dynamic arts conservatory at Rutgers, the State University of new Jersey, and it offers a wide variety of degrees and areas of study.

    Dance Department The Dance Department at Mason Gross strives for excellence in dance performances, dance education, and outstanding creative achievement allowing students to explore creative artistry in a diverse educational environment. A professional faculty with a comprehensive range of study areas, excellent facilities in a suburban setting and abundant performing opportunities make the Mason Gross School ideal for any student seeking a professional career in dance. Degrees offered include Dance Performance (BFA), Dance (BA), the 5 year track BFA/Ed.M., Ed.M. in dance education with State Certification or with No State Certification, and a Minor in Dance. A vast array of course offerings exist, including but limited to modern dance technique, jazz technique, ballet technique, Afro-Fusion dance, choreography improvisation, Kinesiology, dance for children, and dance for video.

    Music Department All Mason Gross School of the Arts music degree programs share a common aim: the development of well-educated professional musicians with a complex historical and theoretical understanding of all aspects of music. The music department offers degree programs in the following areas: Classical Performance, Composition, Conducting, Jazz Studies, Music Education, Musicology, Theory, SAS Bachelor of Arts in Music. Certificate Programs are offered in Music Program in American Language Studies and Music Technology. Students have access, by audition, to a variety of performance opportunities throughout their career at Mason Gross, including wind bands, large choral ensembles, opera and early music, jazz, orchestral ensembles, and more!

    Theater Department The Theater Department as Mason Gross School of the Arts provides students with an in-depth and highly demanding program for those serious about pursuing a career as a theater professional. The training consists of intensive studio classes, a rigorous core curriculum and fully-supported productions. Most theater programs are based on a standard four years for a BFA degree and three years for a Master of Fine Arts degree. At Rutgers, we provide one of the most detailed and comprehensive career transitions of any training program in the country. In addition to showcasing our acting students and playwrights or presenting our designers' portfolios in New York, Rutgers will actively co-produce professional products with noted regional and Off-Broadway theaters designed to give our students concrete access to the theater profession.

    Visual Arts Department The Visual Arts Department provides both disciplinary focus and an environment for interdisciplinary exploration, as well as access to rich intellectual resources of a major research institution. BFA, BA, and MFA degrees in Visual Arts are offered with undergraduate concentrations in Design, Drawing, Media, Painting, Photography, Print, and Sculpture. Proximity to New York and Philadelphia give students access to a faculty of renowned professional artists and designers, prestigious museums and galleries, visiting artists and critics, and profoundly affects the exchange of ideas within the Visual Arts Department. Visual Arts graduates become professional artists and designers, and work in creative environments such as museums, galleries, schools, and universities and industries including film, television, and advertising.
