    Overview

Vancouver Film School, founded on the philosophy that one year of concentrated production work combined with industry led theory is more valuable than four years of theoretical instruction, provides students with a rigorous and comprehensive education.

The keys to VFS model are intensity and structure: there's no such thing as "down time" during a year at VFS - unlike university and college educations/ Each term, each week, each day is filled with learning and creating. And rather than picking and choosing from a variety of courses, a VFS education is carefully designed so that the courses and projects in each term build directly upon what students learned the term before.

Faculty are working professionals. They bring the real-world experience students rarely find in tenured academics, who are just too far removed from the real world to help emerging artists succeed. In many programs, courses are scheduled around faculty members who are working on major productions during the day. VFS instructors have been celebrated with major awards, including Emmys, and have worked on independent projects and with major studios like ILM, Pixar, Paramount, EMI, PDI/Dreamworks, BioWare, PolyGram, and EA. Instructors' ongoing ties to industry means that they are students' first and often most valuable business network.

Vancouver Film School's 13 programs span the entertainment arts. In one year or less, each and every VRS program provides students with a comprehensive, industry-current curriculum that covers both theory and hands-on, practical training. Programs include 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Classical Animation, Digital Character Animation, Acting for Film & Television, Acting Essentials, Digital Design, Entertainment Business Management, Film Production, Game Design, Makeup Design for Film & Television, Programming for Games, Web & Mobile, Sound Design for Visual Media, Writing for Film & Television, and Foundation Visual Art & Design.
