For adolescent girls who are having emotional or behavioral difficulties, Eckerd's E-Nini-Hassee Outdoor Therapeutic School for Girls delivers fully-accredited education and counseling services in a therapeutic outdoor environment.
Founded in 1969, E-Nini-Hassee is the most established and trusted outdoor therapeutic school for girls in the southeastern United States. Located just one hour north of Tampa, FL, we specialize in helping troubled girls gain the skills and confidence needed to navigate the difficult road from adolescence to adulthood. In fact, that’s why we are named E-Nini-Hassee, which means “Her Sunny Road” in the Seminole Indian language.
We specialize in treating the following diagnosis:
- Depression
- Substance abuse
- ADD/ADHD
- Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD)
- Bi-polar Disorder (Manic Depression)
- Anxiety
- Eating disorders
- Poor impulse control
- Other disorders
Therapy & Counseling
The E-Nini-Hassee approach is strengths-based. We emphasize increasing self-awareness and helping each girl develop effective problem solving, coping, communication and social skills to become a successful young woman. We take advantage of group, individual and family counseling during treatment.
At intake we will begin building a transition plan that incorporates goals for the family and connections with schools and community agencies to provide the best possible opportunity for continued success as your child transitions back home. We will continue to follow up with you and your daughter for up to a year after graduation.
Outdoor Adventure
Therapeutic outdoor adventures boost girls’ self-esteem by offering them new opportunities for personal growth in ways many never thought was possible. Vital life skills such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills are learned through participating in outdoor adventure activities. It is also empowering for girls to push beyond their preconceived or self-imposed limits.
Parents evaluating E-Nini-Hassee may wonder if their daughter will succeed here because she’s not an “outdoor type.” In our decades-long history, we have yet to meet a girl who could not benefit from some type of outdoor adventure programming. The majority of our students say what surprised them the most after graduation was how much they missed being outdoors and participating in activities like fishing, hiking, camping and ropes course.
Academics
Our on-campus school provides a positive learning environment for girls who struggle in most academic settings. Taught by state-certified teachers, our curriculum is aligned with all Department of Education guidelines for grades 6-12. Course credits are fully transferable, and students can receive their high school diploma upon successful completion of coursework.
With a 10:1 student/teacher ratios we encourage students to progress at their own rate. Integrated into the curriculum are other experiential activities for academic growth, improved self-concept, spiritual awareness and an understanding of the need for service to the community.
Tuition
Eckerd E-Nini-Hassee tuition rate is $225 per day. Our tuition rate is often lower than comparable for-profit boarding schools and therapeutic programs. We also don’t charge any additional fees unlike many similar programs.
E-Nini-Hassee is NOT a Medicaid provider and considered "Out-of-Network" for most health insurance plans. You will need to check with your insurance company to see how much they may reimburse you. While E-Nini-Hassee clinical staff does NOT bill your insurance, we will assist you in completing claims, if applicable, to your insurance provider. It will be your responsibility to determine if your provider will reimburse services.
