Harrisburg's Only Independent School, Harrisburg Academy serves students age 3 - 12th Grade. The Academy is the Harrisburg area's flagship independent school, and is widely considered to be the best private school in Southcentral Pennsylvania.
We partner with families who value education as a priority in their family setting, seek an institution that encourages deep, authentic learning, and desire an alternative to public and religious school offerings for their child. Currently, our student body draws from 27 school districts and six counties in the midstate, representing families of all socioeconomic, racial, religious, and geographic backgrounds. With a strong, college preparatory-focused liberal arts program, we provide a rigorous core curriculum of "reading, writing, and arithmetic, science, the arts, and technology; but we also incorporate 21st century learning strategies and innovation into our students' experience. Our institution may be 230 years old, but we operate as a "school of the future."
Harrisburg Academy is proud to be the first school in the Harrisburg area to receive International Baccalaureate World school accreditation and through this, offer the IB Diploma program to its Upper School students. Designed as a comprehensive, two-year curriculum that allows students to fulfill requirements of various national education systems, IB incorporates the best elements of education across the globe. The IB Diploma program is internationally recognized as one of the most challenging college-preparatory curricula available, which is why it aligns seamlessly with the Academy's high-quality college preparatory liberal arts format and globally minded mission. Students may choose to pursue a full IB Diploma or may enroll in individual IB courses to earn a Certificate.
