New Way Academy is Arizonas only non-profit, independent kindergarten through grade twelve day school specializing in children with dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, and language based learning differences.
New Way Academy takes a special approach to supporting students with learning differences. We consider students' unique needs and strengths as we develop Individualized Education Plans that help students tackle learning challenges while celebrating learning successes.
Each student's Individual Education Program (IEP) is carefully crafted around his or her educational needs and abilities as identified through comprehensive assessments of speech/language skills, motor skills and more. Throughout the day, students progress through classes designed to meet their unique individual education program goals and objectives. Students are assigned to homeroom groupings according to age and social/emotional developmental level, and assigned to academic classes according to their present level of functioning in each academic area.
Class sizes range from one-on-one to twelve students or less. The school day includes morning and lunch breaks, which offer fun opportunities for outdoor play and interaction with fellow students and teachers.
We use a variety of multi-sensory teaching techniques, remedial programs and learning aids to help students progress academically. Structured language reading programs based on the Orton-Gillingham approach are available for students with dyslexia and reading disorders. Speech and language therapy, adaptive P.E., art, occupational therapy and social skills training are also provided on-site.
New Way Academy also features a positive discipline program that utilizes logical consequences, problem-solving strategies, cognitive training and a token economy system to foster appropriate social behavior and improve self-esteem. We are committed to helping students experience growth and success in both academics and social/emotional development.
