    Overview

This program brings together students like you, who want to make a difference in their community and the world. And it all starts with self-awareness. As you explore Irish culture through the lens of intercultural studies, you'll also investigate your own cultural background and identity. What is your leadership style? What social justice issues are you passionate about? How can you make a difference in your community back home?

Learn the history of the Northern Ireland conflict and current cultural, societal or political themes. Flex your intercultural muscles by recognizing cultural differences and similarities between U.S. American and Irish culture and develop effective strategies to bridge differences. Explore the experience of diverse populations in Ireland and gain insights that will help you better understand your home community. Get ready to try out traditional Irish sports and dancing, take a ballad tour of the city of Dublin with professional musicians or visit iconic sights such as the Kilmainham Gaol (jail), a key site of the Irish nationalist movement. For your final project, you'll analyze a cultural communication artifact (i.e.: a recent newspaper or magazine article, a podcast or a video...etc.) and share with your group. Emerge with the skills to be a powerful agent of change on the issues that matter to you now and well into the future.
