I joined Envi Sci many years ago as a student. While at the program, I made a group of friends that became like family, and we still keep in touch (I'm even working alongside some of them now.) The camp's leaders were knowledgable and well-trained, as well as incredibly supportive and friendly. The trips we took were fun as well as educational, and I got the opportunity to get a closer look at the environment around me. I found myself identifying plants even outside the program, evaluating ecosystems and most importantly discovered a desire to learn more and more. The Mount Washington trip is definitely a highlight of the experience at Envi Sci- we get to explore a completely different ecosystem, build trust, and get some great exercise along the way.
While the Newton Environmental Science Camp is certainly dedicated to teaching about environmental sciences, I found that the passion in each and every person involved in the program- students and leaders alike- was what kept me coming back year after year. I am not an environmental science major, but I find that my interest in parks, community, and the environment drives me to explore and even relate it to my own work even today as I pursue a film and television production degree.
I have come out of this program a much more confident, educated and passionate person, and would highly recommend this program.
